COMIENDO PALOMA
No Love Lost Salon
Los Angeles, February 2011
Comiendo Paloma is a mutated clone, a cultural wanna-be, and a sad attempt at experiencing a ritual that is denied to us by a lack of immigration reform. Comiendo Paloma is a collective performance in which we complete multiple exchanges: we exchange culture, looks, anticipation, touch, germs, laughter, stories, time, and delicious pieces of pan. We momentarily are uncomfortably close to one another. This food exchange is inspired by a Oaxacan wedding ritual in which the entire wedding party feeds each other mole and tortillas with their bare hands. During this exchange tamborazo music is played and people sway their bodies and hands to the beat of the music as they feed each other.
